Why Does My Life Have to End
What would you do if you only had 24 hours to live?
Would you be happy with the life you led?
Would you be able to say that you've made the most of your life?
Would you look back on your life and say that you've lived the best life you
could possibly live?
Would you think "I haven't done nearly the things that I know I'm capable of
doing?"
Would you think "I haven't accomplished the things that I have always wished
to accomplish?"
Why does my life have to end?
Life has to end because...
Sin came into the world because of what one man did, and with sin came death. This is why everyone must die - because everyone sinned... But from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, everyone had to die, even those who had not sinned by breaking a command, as Adam had.
Romans 5:12-14 (NCV)
Everyone was going to be punished because Adam sinned. But because of the good things that Christ has done, God accepts us and gives us the gift of life.
Romans 5:18 (CEV)
Why did Jesus Christ die?
But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.
Isaiah 53:5
He was taken from prison and from judgment, And who will declare His generation? For He was cut off from the land of the living; For the transgressions of My people He was stricken.
Isaiah 53:8
He shall see the labor of His soul, and be satisfied. By His knowledge My righteous Servant shall justify many, For He shall bear their iniquities. Therefore I will divide Him a portion with the great, And He shall divide the spoil with the strong, Because He poured out His soul unto death, And He was numbered with the transgressors, And He bore the sin of many, And made intercession for the transgressors.
Isaiah 53:11-12
For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit.
1 Peter 3:18
who was delivered up because of our offenses, and was raised because of our justification.
Romans 4:25
For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures.
1 Corinthians 15:3
who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness - by whose stripes you were healed.
1 Peter 2:24
FIRST FACT: Jesus Christ died because of my sins.
just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.
Matthew 20:28
SECOND FACT: Jesus Christ gave His life as a ransom for my life.
Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise Him; He has put Him to grief. When You make His soul an offering for sin, He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days, And the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in His hand.
Isaiah 53:10
THIRD FACT: Jesus Christ's soul was made an offering for my sin.
And according to the law almost all things are purified with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission.
Hebrews 9:22
so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.
Hebrews 9:28
God is holy and must hate sin. His holiness and hatred of sin must manifest itself. His wrath at sin must strike somewhere, on the sinner himself or upon a lawful substitute.
All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.
Isaiah 53:6
By oppression and judgment he was taken away; and as for his generation, who among them considered that he was cut off out of the land of the living, for the transgression of my people to whom the stroke was due.
Isaiah 53:8
"The stroke due" to others fell upon Him and He was consequently "cut off out of the land of the living." The death of Christ has its first cause in the demands of God's holiness.
For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse; for it is written, "Cursed is everyone who does not continue in all things which are written in the book of the law, to do them." Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, "Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree")
Galatians 3:10, 13
FOURTH FACT: Jesus Christ died to redeem me from the curse of the law by bearing that curse Himself.
... For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us.
FIFTH FACT: Jesus Christ died as my Passover sacrifice - i.e., that His shed blood might serve as a ground upon which God would pass over and spare me.
But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.
Galatians 4:4-5
SIXTH FACT: Jesus Christ died to redeem me because I was under the law that I might receive a relationship with God.
who gave Himself for our sins, that He might deliver us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father.
Galatians 1:4
SEVENTH FACT: Jesus Christ died to deliver me from this present evil world.
For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit.
1 Peter 3:18
EIGHTH FACT: Jesus Christ died to bring me to God.
His death puts out of the way the impassable gulf that yawns between a holy God and sinful man.
For to this end Christ died and rose and lived again, that He might be Lord of both the dead and the living.
Romans 14:9
